This week, we celebrated the big one: the Twitter takeover. This massive social media event that saw more than 140 million tweets in one single day, a record for Twitter. The reaction was amazing. It was like the World Cup of Twitter. The number one tweet was about people coming together to celebrate and the number two was the hashtag #TogetherWeStand. It was like a supernova.

Well, there’s a reason why we call it the Twitter “World Cup” and the hashtag “TogetherWeStand.” Twitter is not just a social media platform. It also happens to be the one social media platform that allows for real-time, live content. One of the best things about Twitter is that you can tweet to a group of people and see all of the tweets in real time.

Twitter is so popular that some people have created software programs that allow you to tweet to them. Other developers have created apps that allow you to use the Twitter API to search for topics in your area of interest and then tweet to any group of people in your area.
