Social listening tools can be either an effective or a harmful tool. In my opinion, it can be either helpful or harmful, depending on the tool. Using the tools is about you, your personal perspective, and how you want to use the tools.

For example, if you have a friend who is into sports, you may be able to use a social listening tool to listen to their thoughts, opinions, and concerns about the sports team, but you may come out of it feeling frustrated because the team (or your friend) has just been eliminated in a game of badminton.

Social listening tools are a great way to get a good idea of what your friends and family think about a certain topic. But, also, they can be used in a way that you don’t want. There are times when you may not want to share your thoughts with your friends, or you may not want to reveal your opinion without the permission of your friends. Or, of course, you may be just not interested in the topic.

Social listening tools are usually not a good idea because you have some kind of conflict with someone else. There are, of course, exceptions to the rule though. For instance, your boyfriend would be a terrible friend to ask your friends to listen to you because it’s entirely possible that he has a crush on you. But there are others who may not respect your opinion, or who may be looking for a conflict to come between.

Social listening tools are, in general, good things. The problem, as many of you can attest to, is that when you share your opinion in a non-conflictual way it’s more difficult for the other person to listen and you have to go through the entire thing again. In the case of social listening tools it’s better to just share your thoughts, and then move on.

You can’t have a 100% conversation with everyone on social listening tools (even though that would be great). We all need to listen to each other, but you also have to be there for the other person. There are many tools, such as the “Leverage tool”, and the “Social listening tool,” that don’t have a lot of the negative traits of the other tools discussed here.

You can have a conversation with people from any social listening environment and you can also have a conversation with a person who has been there for your time. It’s easy to make up your mind, but you also have to be there for everyone. You can’t just have a conversation with everyone, and then say, “Hey, let’s talk about something else.” You would have to go through the whole thing again.

And this is one of the major things that separates social listening tools from other tools such as Facebook and Twitter: you can talk with anyone you want. You can go through your entire timeline, talk to anyone, and in a way that is both meaningful and authentic, you can talk with anyone you want. Which is why we use social listening tools. They are also great for making new friendships as they’re easier to build and less intimidating than if you had to create your own connection.
