It’s not. Most of the tweets the app follows are random strangers who have no skill whatsoever in writing content. The service was started in 2010 by people who had no idea what they were doing. A lot of people have their first interaction with the service through its Twitter account, and the majority of them are either bored or feel intimidated by the service. It’s not the service’s fault, but it is the service’s fault that so few people are truly into it.
It’s not quite the same as searching for something, but it’s close enough. Once you’ve found something, you can tweet it or retweet it, or post a link back to your page. The downside is that after you’ve found something, you have to tweet it, retweet it, or post a link, and you don’t get the opportunity to do any of the other things that would lead you to your results.
I don’t know about you, but I find the notion of “lead sources” as “a collection of people who you know are interested in something” creepy. I use these to find related information about my interests, and I use them to find people with the same interests as me and ask them questions about them. There are a few things that make me uncomfortable talking about books or books. One of the main ones is that people will not talk to a book about me until I have given them a link to it. This is because I am basically a book-obsessed person.
